Re: @Schizophrenia | @SchizoaffectiveDisorder | @DelusionalDisorder

Thanks for opening up this chat with us! 🙂 🙏

Your post is inspirational for me to seek help!

@daylightdelight

I would love to chat further id love to ask you some questions. pease feel free to answer anything you comfortable if not that's ok. Were all on this journey and we get it!

Well done on opening up the conversation!

Have you had any particularly good or bad experiences with a therapist or doctor?

What's one small, everyday thing your condition makes harder that most people wouldn't think of?

What was it like for you to first accept that you were dealing with a mental illness?

Can you share an experience where you had to explain your mental health condition to someone who didn't understand, and what that felt like?"

What's a common misconception about your illness that you wish you could correct for everyone?

What's one thing you do to advocate for yourself when you're feeling especially vulnerable?

What's your advice for people wanting to seek help but hesitated?

Re: @Schizophrenia | @SchizoaffectiveDisorder | @DelusionalDisorder

Hello @daylightdelight

I too have had a desire to talk with other people who have suffered with delusions and psychosis, probably to learn about their insights and to find out how to reconcile with the memories of my time in mania/psychosis and make some kind of sense out of the experiences and to probably prevent any future episodes. I was fortunate during one of my past hospital stays to talk with some fellow bipolar 1 folk about their experiences which they openly shared with me and in so doing I felt less alone. I hope you find what you are looking for and I’d be interested in a thread like you suggest.

Re: @Schizophrenia | @SchizoaffectiveDisorder | @DelusionalDisorder

@daylightdelight  this is a youtube channel run by a woman with schizoaffective disorder bipolar type https://www.youtube.com/@SchizoKitzo this is the main one i would suggest but if you type in schizophrenia and such into youtube it will come up with a bunch of stuff too.

Re: @Schizophrenia | @SchizoaffectiveDisorder | @DelusionalDisorder

Hey @daylightdelight, thank you for sharing your experiences with the community!

Thanks for tagging me in @holdinghope5 and what a great discussion 🙂

I can see that @Eden1919 referred you to a YouTube channel which is great as there are a lot of resources there. Another on I have used though it has changed a bit recently is https://www.youtube.com/@LivingWellAfterSchizophrenia.

And thank you @Dimity for mentioning the Hearing voices and psychosis thread which we are looking into as to why it's not allowing posts. Strange but please do circle back to this thread and it was created to be a space to connect about all things and schizophrenia and psychosis topics.

@Spirit_Healer mentioned the Mental Health Foundation Australia, Hearing Voices Support Group which is available online anywhere in Australia so could be a good option too.

I have also used a lot of Facebook groups but found them to be a bit scatty as they are not moderated well and can be a triggering space and often trauma dumping their experiences. But if you do find a good one you are welcome to share in with the community.

I have not used Reddit so once again if someone from the communtiy has a good forum please share it with the community.

Thanks again for starting this discussion!

Take care

https://www.schizy.org/

this is one organisation I know of

@daylightdelight it is a tricky concept and condition. My experience is more that a range of my loved ones were given those labels. I have spent a lifetime trying to understand. Apparently, I don’t have it, against the odds, even though I could identify with aspects of schizoaffective disorder. I am old and been thinking and researching about it for a long time. I don’t think the experts really know. Tag me if you want to talk.

this is another organisation.

yes, it can be very isolating. I have never been hospitalised, but most people can’t even cope with discussing it reasonably, hence I came on the forums.

take care
