After tagging everyone I am suddenly concerned that I am posting in the wrong space. Maybe my friends at SANE can move it if that is the case lol.

So I thought we might talk about exercise. We just have to be a bit careful due to community guidelines not to mention distance/cals/weight etc.

I have a few questions for you all.

*     Do you enjoy exercise?

*     Did you have a sport you enjoyed as a child?

*     Do you do any sport now?

*     What are your favourite ways to exercise?

*     What was your favourite bit of the basic training obstacles?

For me I am not especially keen on exercise because I have not kept up my fitness. I used to enjoy softball as a child. At the moment I am working on walking and doing my mini cycle. Roller skating is my favourite way to exercise but my local rink shut down several years ago so I can't do that anymore. My favourite basic training obstacles were definitely the walls.

Re: Exercise

Is this a defence thing @Oaktree ? Re obstacles ?

  • Yes if not in pain *back*
  • Didn't really play sport .still won 75m in grade 1 and was stronger than most people at school
  • Walking, gym
  • Was on something that ended with a wall and had to jump into water. Regiment CO was watching. Kept rifle out of water so ordered me to do it twice more in hope it would get wet. Smiles and laughter stopped and they moved on saying nothing. I had spoiled their chicken sh!t day..

Re: Exercise

yes @TAB  Defence Force basic training obstacles.

Good on you for keeping your rifle dry and ruining the Regiment CO's day.

Sounds awesome!

@MamiyaFan

I can relate!

As I said, I don’t love exercise and I was definitely not built for running. I did do little athletics as a kid but I always came last. I used to get the sportsmanship awards.

Re: Exercise

I have never been sporty but I do enjoy the feeling once I have done exercise - just not so much at the time.

I’ve shared in another thread that I do love parkrun. I enjoy being outdoors - bushwalking is great. I did triathlons for a while with some friends - just short ones - but the running is always my downfall. I’m not built to run so it always is a struggle. Walking is much more achievable - especially with my old knees and ankles

I never really played sports as a kid - but I loved horse riding. We were lucky it was an option at school for weekly sport.

and I’ve always wanted to learn to surf - but now rounds of learn to surf courses and I haven’t had much success. Might have to stick to the boogie board.

Re: Exercise

@Magpie22

I also enjoy bushwalking and have previously walked from Kalamunda to Collie on the Bibbulman track. I would love to do an end to end sometime, it takes around 2 months. I am not fit enough to attempt it yet.

I love horses too and used to pay to go on trail rides when I was in the Army in my time off. I could never own a horse as they cost way too much.

Re: Exercise

@Oaktree There seem to be a lot of veteran horse programs popping up. A friend recommended one near me - but unfortunately with full time work, it’s hard to find time to do programs like this.
I’d love
to do some multi-day hikes. Larapinta maybe. Except I’m PETRIFIED of snakes lol

Re: Exercise

Me too regarding the snakes @Magpie22

If you make plenty of noise they get out of the way generally.
