New to the forums

I found these forums today. After a restful Sunday, I think my thoughts had a chance to race again and now I can't sleep.

I have chronic MH issues and have been through a long list of diagnoses. The latest is BPD with cPTSD.

I have found therapy helpful and medications help too, but I still seem to run from one crisis to another (they are more spread apart now)

I have a chronic medical condition too and I care for my daughter who has the same MH and medical condition that I have.

I guess I just want to know I'm not alone. I also wondered if there are others on  here with medical issues that affect their MH.

Hi @Padbakie I just wanted to stop by and welcome you to the forums while we're waiting for some members to see your post.

I'm glad that you've found this space, as I know that there are members on here who can relate to this experience of managing the impact that physical health conditions have had on their mental health. You are certainly not alone here.

Re: New to the forums

Hi @Padbakie . Thank you for reaching out and telling your story. That’s brave of you and takes courage to ask for support so well done!

I read that you have BPD and cPTSD and some other medical issues and are also helping to care for your daughter with similar issues. I have mental health issues myself and have found that talking about what’s happening to people often helps me, including the forums. My mental health is episodic and often happens when I’m stressed so I’ve built up strategies to deal with this, including writing things down and going outside. Listening to music and having a cup of tea are other strategies I use. Learning what things cause you to get into a crisis such as specific events, locations or people for example, can possibly assist you as to how you handle your crisis in the future and how to respond to them. This may mean talking to qualified professionals but it is worth it. This is just an idea that may be useful to you.

Taking time out for yourself is also important in the role as a carer so you can be the best person you can for both yourself and them. I’ll tag a member who might be better at explaining this in more detail @Shaz51

Take care.
