Re: General chat

@Dimity   Earlier this year I got rid of star jasmines that were growing on trellis on back fence.  New growth was growing out at all angles.  I had potato vine growing on trellis on back fence when I moved in….. nasty, nasty thing.

I need to look into Snail Creeper if I get something to put on a trellis.  Over time, like any creeper or climber, they can take over everything which I don’t want.

I was thinking of fuchsias in hanging baskets, remember the lovely display my maternal grandmother had.  Also remember the mess the plants made when the flowers dropped.

Dahlia with purple leaves, quite unique.  Sounds lovely.  Photos??

Re: General chat

@Former-Member good work so far!! any time i have to declutter a space, i take a while too. garages are one of the harder spaces, so many lil bits and bobs!!

oh wow! i look forward to seeing how they turn out!!

@Dimity yellow with purple leaves sound beautiful, don't think i've seen those ones either!! keen to see how these turn out too!!

Re: General chat

The dahlias are just tubers atm @rav3n @Former-Member so photos are wishful thinking.

My potato creeper was more than I could cope with. I kept having to cut it back.

I loved the fuschias we had when I was a kid. I'd watch the eastern spinebills and other honeyeaters. We must have had 6 or 7 different fuchsias.

Re: General chat

that's fair! @Dimity

when i read 'potato creeper' i thought it was a potato plant haha but they are quite pretty flowers! fuschias are gorgeous too, love the purple and pink ones!

Re: General chat

Fuchsias and snail creeper always remind me of my maternal grandmother and her home when I was in primary school @rav3n @Dimity

stepped out through back door and were in small paved and covered area in which she had fuchsias in hanging baskets.  I remember part of flower colours, one was mauve and other was red.

Outdoor toilet in front of which was a low wood fence with an evergreen snail creeper growing all over it.  Thinking back, I think the fence and snail creeper were holding each other up, creeper was very dense and had been there for years

Re: General chat

it's so lovely how certain plants and flowers can be so nostalgic  @Former-Member @Dimity

Re: General chat

Yes  I remember outdoor toilets with trumpet vine @Former-Member (orange flowers). I lived with an outside toilet until I was 15. Moved 6 times.

There was a big fuchsia outside my bedroom window.at one place.

Re: General chat

@Dimity  My childhood home had outside toilet until I was in late primary school with cage with rosellas near it. House I lived in for about 1yr in my late teens had outside toilet   Both my grandparents houses had outside toilets until they were renovated after being sold in mid 70’s.  My paternal grandfather used to get bored and would paint things …. Toilet seat, bath, kitchen cupboards …. He painted over what was there which led to kitchen cupboards being impossible to shut due to layers and layers of paint.

sitting on the couch thinking of couple things I want to ask on Thursday and it started raining.  Has gotten cold though, single fingers outside

Lazy afternoon which Sunny enjoyed.  He was stretched out on my legs sound asleep at one point, his head hear my ankles and back feet couple inches away from my groin.

hope rain didn’t impact on you going for a walk.

hoping you took some time away from everything just for you.   Any plans for doing more planting?

Re: General chat

@rav3n    My maternal grandmothers home was one of my favourite places.  Pain due to arthritis has me missing her and grieving a lot recently.  The only family member I could have talked with and who would have understood exactly what I’m going through.

Ive got lots of memories of happy, funny and silly things that happened.  The flowers, picking mulberries off the tree in her backyard, her humour, plus lots more

how long before your interstate trip?  Where are you going to (if you don’t mind sharing)?

Re: General chat

sounds like you and your grandmother had a really special connection. if you ever want to talk about her more or share some stories, we're here to listen 💙 @Former-Member
